First German-Argentinian translation workshop

In 2010, Argentina will be Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair. In anticipation of this occasion, a German-Argentinian translation workshop will be held next spring in Buenos Aires, the first of its kind.
The translation workshop has spaces for six professionally experienced Argentinian translators of German-language literature and six translators of Spanish from the German-speaking world. According to the organisers, the attendance of native speakers from two language and cultural regions has proved to be very enriching for the translation of literary texts. On the one hand, it focuses attention on typical problem cases, and on the other, it also boosts awareness for the peculiarities and strengths of the translators' own language. The workshop also sets out to provide insights into the way the profession operates in different countries and to facilitate long-term working contacts between those who take part. The first German-Argentinian translation workshop is being held from 12 to 18 April 2009 in Buenos Aires. Applications can still be submitted through to 15 November. The translation workshop is being organised by the Fundación TyPA with backing from the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Deutscher Übersetzerfond, the Goethe-Institut in Buenos Aires and Pro Helvetia.
